8 | Community Service Club | Johnston - Rm. 103 | Non-Early Release Wednesdays & as projects dictate. | The CSC is a year-long club that gets students involved in projects that benefit our BE Community and beyond. Students gain leadership, organizational, planning, communication, problem-solving, and time management skills by working as a team to plan projects that benefit others. It teaches them a sense of empathy by 'paying it forward' and increases their self esteem as they learn what they can achieve as they plan and complete projects. Some smaller projects students have worked on include our annual Veteran's Day project and Food Drives. Major projects have included Sock-tober where we collected over 1200 pairs of socks for our local food pantries, # BE Stands with Ukraine where we raised over $1800 for UNICEF's Ukrainian Refugee Childrens' Fund by selling t-shirts and holding a Walk-a-thon, and our Hay for Horses/Buy a Bale project where we raised $400 to help feed the horses at the Maine State Society for the Protection of Animals farm in Windham. |
9 | Craft Club | Falkner - Rm. 192A | Thursdays - year long | The purpose of the craft club is to enable students to work on different crafts in a calm atmosphere after school. Crafts may include painting, drawing, origami, scrapbooking, crocheting, knitting, and coloring, to name a few. However, this club will not include woodworking crafts. |
10 | Drama | Avery / Richards- Lowlands Gym | BEMS Drama | The BEMS Drama Club puts on a play every fall just before Halloween. Our season starts the week that the Activity buses start, with auditions and then rehearsals begin. We do straight plays for two seasons and a musical every third year. We try to find room for every student who is interested. |

12 | Jazz Band | Raymond - Rm 180 (Band room) | Tuesdays - winter | Jazz band is an invitation only club, students have to be in band to be invited into jazz band. We play higher level music and we attend district and state festivals where we are critiqued by judges from all over New England. |
13 | Lego Robotics | Ruby/Falkner - Rm 156 | Tuesdays - year long | First Lego League Robotics Team. The FLL team learns about robot design and programming using Lego EV3 mindstorm kits. Every year First Lego League presents a new challenge that involves a project and robotic games. Students follow the FLL Core Values while they work to complete the challenge. |
14 | Math Team 7th/8th | Martin - Rm 107 | Tuesdays - year long begins end of October | The 7th and 8th Grade Math Team has practice afterschool in Room 107. We compete as part of the Southern Maine Math League. There are 20-28 other middle schools that participate in four (4) meets throughout the school year. The types of problems challenge 7th and 8th grade students to focus on applying math concepts and there are problems that students will not typically see in their regular classes. The first three (3) meets are held virtually. The fourth (4th) meet happens in person in May at the Expo in Portland. |
15 | National History Day | Lord - Rm 124 | Thursdays as needed Starting a | Maine National History Day is co-organized by the University of Maine and the Margaret Chase Smith Library. Students select a topic relating to a national theme. Using primary and secondary resources, students research a topic and present conclusions in one of the following ways: Research Paper: Traditional academic paper, complete with citations Exhibit: Museum-style exhibit using images, text, and supporting resources Documentary: 10-minute video combining images and analytical narration Performance: 10-minute live performance using actual or composite character Website: Web-based collection of interactive pages |
16 | Newspaper Club | DeMaris - Rm 104 | Alternating Thursdays | Newspaper Club creates articles, interviews, stories, comics, games, and all the content for our school publication, The Paper. We publish editions monthly or bi-monthly, and we accept outside submissions if anyone wants to send us content. We have students from all grade levels, and we are happy to help train you to interview, write articles, proofread stories, and all the skills you would need to succeed. You just need a willing attitude and the time to join! |
17 | Pathfinders (6th Grade), Spring | Eiring | TBD | The basis of the program is to present challenges that will require a combination of teamwork, commitment, and creativity as individuals and as group members. Participants will be encouraged to explore their ability within a group in a physically and emotionally safe environment. The activities will include cooperative learning games, problem solving elements, and outdoor activities such as snowshoeing, bike riding, etc. We will also include a community service activity as well as a one day hiking trip in the spring. |

Students must complete weekly progress reports during our season and receive endorsements from each of their teachers importer to be eligible for the week long camping trip at the end of the season. We swim three days a week and host a land practice on the 4th day that consists of conditioning and weight lifting. |

Ultimate Frisbee Club is a club for students who are interested in learning how to play the game of Ultimate beyond gym class! This club will include learning the rules of Ultimate Frisbee and how to play offense and defense. This club will start sometime in April and run for 5 weeks, two times a week. The club will be limited in space to ensure every club member has a chance to properly learn and apply the skills that are taught. |

28 | Yearbook Club | DeMaris - Rm 104 | Alternating Thursdays | Yearbook Club designs, organizes, markets, and fills the school yearbook, the Sporran (named for that little pouch you see on kilts). Students meet every other Thursday with Mr. DeMaris, with occasional additional meetings as needed, to plan photography, design pages, create and place posters, and do all the little things that make the book a success. If you like to take photos, if you enjoy making posters, if you want to spend time designing pages and figuring out what goes where, this would be a fun club for you! Space is very limited and it fills up quickly, so please contact Mr. DeMaris early in the year if you are interested. |
